A JOURNEY'S END
Here's to new beginnings!
I got a tattoo last night, from my dear friend, old-school master tattooist Ben Stone. It’s a frigate bird on my left (drawing) hand, signifying a coming home. Last night was a full moon, and also bonfire night (a brit tradition). I drank a couple of beers afterwards, which happened to have a horned demon as the logo. The Conan story was called ‘Tattered Wings’. It’s the completion of a LONG symbolic journey home, with a bird theme. It features werewolves (sort of) and a horned mage. It was in the stores yesterday.
A bird tattoo, and a story called ‘tattered wings’; a full moon and werewolves; a demon and a horned mage…
All crazily appropriate!
Sometimes things just align. I’m not inclined to believe in fate, or destiny, etc. but nevertheless it was nice to appreciate in the moment those symbolic and totemic themes and coincidences. They make the world that little bit more mythic and magical.
And there’s no getting round it - for me, yesterday was very important. My whole career has led to this moment, this closing of a very big circle through time, through this medium we call comics, and through my journey as an artist and writer. I sort of feel like I only just came of age, creatively, at 57!
Cheers, all! It’s a two way thing, and without you sharing all this it’s meaningless. I’m glad to be on this very human creative journey with you. We can’t do it alone!
Let me know if you have picked up a copy!
Very best!
Liam

Nice
Cheers, Doc. You're mythic, magical.
